PRP Q & A

Become MedSpa

What is PRP?

PRP is plasma that contains a higher concentration of platelets than the amount normally found in your blood. Inside your body, platelets naturally migrate to injured tissues, where they release proteins called growth factors.

There are many different growth factors, but they’re all essential for healing because they stimulate the synthesis of every type of new cell needed to restore healthy tissues and organs.

When your specialist at Become MedSpa infuses your skin with PRP, the growth factors go to work doing their normal job. They activate the production of skin cells, collagen, fatty tissue, blood vessels, and other tissues that promote healthy, stronger skin.

Where does PRP come from?

PRP is made on site using your own blood, which means it’s safe, and you don’t need to worry about unwanted side effects.

After drawing a blood sample, your specialist at Become MedSpa places it in a centrifuge, which separates platelets and plasma from other blood components. The plasma and platelets are then used for your facial treatment.

What should I expect during a PRP facial?

Before platelets can improve your skin, they must first penetrate below the skin’s surface. Although PRP can be injected directly into problem areas, the best way to give you an overall facial with PRP is with microneedling. Microneedling is done using a device with numerous very fine needles (microneedles) that can quickly make small punctures or channels in your skin.

After your skin care specialist at Become MedSpa finishes microneedling, they apply PRP over the area. The tiny channels allow platelets to penetrate deep into your skin, where they can begin the rejuvenation process.

On its own, microneedling is a well-established facial treatment. The small wounds stimulate collagen production, which restores strong, resilient skin.

When microneedling is combined with PRP, your results are enhanced. Both procedures boost collagen, while platelets accelerate healing and stimulate the production of new skin.

What skin problems will improve with PRP?

PRP improves your appearance by:

  • Diminishing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkle
  • Strengthening and tightening your skin
  • Improving skin hydration
  • Reducing hyperpigmentation (brown spots, sun damage)
  • Softening the appearance of acne scars

PRP generally improves your skin’s quality and texture, helping you regain a glowing complexion and more youthful appearance.
